He became a joint 3rd goal scorer in his second season while playing in the Ukrainian Premier League, catching the eye of Dynamo Kyiv scouts.

The following year, he started playing for Dynamo Kyiv, where he set the record by becoming the highest all-time goal scorer in the Ukrainian Premier League.

He reached the Champions League semi-final in 1999 but unfortunately lost to Bayern Munich

He eventually left Ukraine for England and joined Tottenham Hotspur in May 2000

In his first season, he scored 12 goals, but he still needed some time to adapt to the footballing side because the football he played at Dynamo Kviv was completely different.

He then joined West Ham on a one-year contract before returning to Dynamo Kyiv in 2005. Two years later, he became the captain of Kyiv.

He moved to Rubin Kazan after receiving two years contract from the club. Rubin won the 2008 Russian Premier League

It was the very first time in Rubin’s history, and Serhiy was part of it.

He hung up his boots in 2009 and, at the same time, became an assistant manager at the Dynamo Kyiv reserves.

His managerial career began in April 2014 as a caretaker manager of Dynamo Kyiv. He became the manager after they lifted the Ukrainian Cup in May

After becoming the manager, he led the team to win two Ukrainian Cup titles and one Ukrainian Super Cup

He resigned from his post in 2017 after the expiration of his contract.

After a season at the Saudi Arabia side, Al Ahli as a manager, he was sacked from the post.
