Astrid was married to a businessman. Her husband is Frans Weghorst, co-owner of AVIA Weghorst and Twickelborg B.V.
AVIA is the family company founded by Fran’s father that operates fuel and gas retailing in the Netherlands.
The company has more than 130 petrol stations in the Netherlands. Together, they are the parents of four sons including Wout.
Among their four sons, Wout is the only one to choose football as his career.
Twan, the eldest of the four sons became a pilot, Ralf became an Architect and the youngest Niek chose family business.
However, things didn’t work out between them and they got divorced.
Wout said because of his parents’ divorce, he is determined to do the right things with his family.
She and her husband were worried about Wout’s career
Astrid and her then-husband were worried about Wout’s career and wanted him to have a more sensible career besides football.
But Wout realized early on that he wanted to become a football player and although he was criticized for lack of his technical skills, he never gave up.
Wout in an interview said he has always said that he wants to separate the family business and his football career.
He is his own person and wants to be judged on his performance.
While continuing his education, he also took his studies side by side.
He first completed his business education to learn oil and gas business and then did his bachelor’s degree in sports management.
Her friend is to be credited
When Wout started playing football in the local team RKSV NEO, he was initially considered not good enough.
Wout in an interview said people told him to forget football saying he was not good enough.
After having played for a few more local clubs, he found a place in Willem II because of his mom.
His mom happened to be friends with Jan van Esch’s wife who was the director of Willem II at the time.
After hearing about Wout’s passion from his wife, Jan van Esch sent a scout to watch him.
Her son scored a late winner as the Netherlands beat Poland
Her son Wout was listed in the Netherland’s squad for UEFA Euro 2024 on the 29th of May, 2024.
He started on the bench for the opening match in Group D of UEFA Euro 2024 against Poland.
He was later brought on as a substitute in the 81st minute and scored a winning goal in less than two minutes helping the team in a 2-1 victory over Poland.
Who is Wout married to?
Wout is happily married to his high-school sweetheart Nikki van Esch.
Wout during an interview with Helden magazine back in 2017 revealed that he was head over heels in love with Nikki but she ignored him for the first two months.
They eventually started dating but parted ways a year later. Things worked out when he moved to Willem II in 2011 and are inseparable since then.
Together, they have three daughters.
Wout said when he became a father for the first time at 25, it changed a lot in him and he started seeing things from a different perspective.
Until that point, it was all about football 24/7. According to him, when his first daughter was born, a lot of things changed.
He still has the same ambitions and the same desire on the pitch, but he is different on a personal level too. His family is very important to him, he said.
