Bartina at the time was working in a shoe specialty store in Groningen and went to his favorite pub for lunch where Ronald and his brother used to go on every Friday for a beer.
She was introduced to Ronald and his brother, but she didn't know who they were at the time.
Bartina said she sometimes saw Ronald cycling past the store but didn't find him good-looking, explaining that he had on very strange pants, a sweater, and Cowboy boots.
On New Year's Eve, there was a party above the cafe. At the party, Ronald was with his girlfriend, and she was also with one of her girlfriends.

Her mother survived cancer
Her mother was diagnosed with cancer in 2011 while she was in Portugal. She underwent treatment for two years.
Her husband was supportive throughout her painful journey and took an 18-month break from football to look after her and the kids.
In 2018, a metastasis in her vertebrae was diagnosed, and she had to go through another painful year, having to go through six rounds of chemotherapy.
In an interview, when asked if her illness has changed her marriage, she said it has only gotten better and that her husband considers it a blessing that he is doing so well now.
She has two siblings
Debbie has two brothers, Tim and Ronald Koeman Jr. Her brother Tim chose his career outside football.
