Early Career of Calzona
After retiring from his playing career, Calzona started his coaching career and a coffee business in the 1990s.
He became in charge of the Tuscan amateur level for the sixth-tier club Togoleto during the 1999-2000 season.
He then resigned from the position and handed the club's responsibility to Maurizio Sarri.
In 2008, he took over the role of assistant manager of Perugia for a year. He then became the assistant manager of Alessandria and Sorrento from 2010 to 2011.
He was assistant manager of Empoli for three years, from 2012 to 2015, where he became the main assistant of Maurizio Sarri, the head coach of Empoli at the time.
He was also the assistant manager of Napoli from 2015 to 2018 and Cagliari from 2020 to 2021.
In 2021, he joined Napoli as a technical coach.
On August 30, 2022, he was hired as the head coach of the Slovak national football team.
On February 19, 2024, he was appointed as the head coach of Napoli.
