Phyllis Piper is the late mother of actor, producer, author, and activist Michael J. Fox.

She was born in Manitoba, Canada. Her parents were Henry Piper and Jane Piper. She had four siblings, three brothers, and a sister. 

She was married to William J. Fox. They shared three kids altogether. She died in September 2022 at the age of 92.

They met each other on the set of Family Ties, where Tracy played his on-screen girlfriend.

They got engaged in 1987, and they tied the knot in 1988. They welcomed their firstborn in 1989. Now they are parents of four children.

Michael Was Diagnosed With Parkinson

Michael was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 1991 but hid it from the world for seven years. 

He said there was a lot of change in his hand, as his left hand was loose. Finally, he decided to tell the world about his disease. 

He told Barbara Walters for the first time in an interview with People Magazine

He founded the Michael J Foundation to help people with Parkinson's disease, and his foundation raised over 2 billion dollars for the cause.

Michael released a feature story about his life. He said that there is no major agenda or reason behind the documentary. 

He said that Davis Guggenheim, an Academy-winning filmmaker, called him and asked if he wanted to do the documentary. 

He said that they didn’t intend to show him as vulnerable and added that he always liked to party and drink, but when he was diagnosed with Parkinson, his drinking got worse. 

He had difficulty accepting that he had been diagnosed with an incurable disease. He kept that secret to himself for seven years. 

After seven years, he got sober and learned to deal with what he was going through. 

He said that from the first part of the documentary, people will know that he always lived to win and go after things and not waste his time on suffering. 

Michael Opened Up About How He Dealt With Parkinson

Michael said it was tough to face the disease initially as he was uncomfortable and suffering a lot. 

He said that later he got comfortable with it. He shared that his doctor told him he only has ten years to work. 

He was taken aback to hear that as he was just 29 years old at that time, and he had to work and look after his family. 

He said that he worked hard over that time and didn’t let Parkinson's disease override him. 

He learned to deal with it. He shared that he always loves movement and does some formal stuff. 

Because of the disease, he lost all his movement and could not grasp things, and it was excruciating for him to go through that. 

He said he loved skating, and it was a hard time to give it up.
