About his mother
His mother, Yvonne Helen Karnes, nicknamed Patsy, was born to her parents, Victor Elliot Karnes, a World War I pilot and a geologist, and Gladys Mae Karnes, a nurse.
When she was 10, she was hit by a car. Her mother enrolled her in the dance classes for therapy.
She later trained in classical ballet and jazz dance.
She founded and directed the Houston Jazz Company in the 1960s, was a resident choreographer at several Houston Institutions, and choreographed the 1980 film “Urban Cowboy.”

Patrick said he always felt that his mom was harder on him than everybody else
Patrick and Patsy appeared on one of the episodes of Superstars and their moms, where they talked about Patsy raising five kids.
During the mother and son conversation, Patsy said it was not easy raising five kids, but they were all good kids, which made the parenting job a lot more easier.
Patrick called her, and although they spent a lot of time sleeping in the theatre seats, he loved every second of being in the theater and hanging out with her.
He then confessed that as a child, he always felt that she was harder than everybody else in the house and that he was competing for her love.
“The thing is that when you are a teacher, they hear you yelling at other students and they don’t think anything about that, they think that kid deserves that when you are yelling at you, it’s like, that’s my mother. She is not supposed to make me behave”, Patsy said in reply.
In the 2019 documentary, I am Patrick Swayze, his widow Lisa revealed that Patsy would be very violent at times in search of perfectionism.
“She was an example of what happens in families in a cycle of abuse. She could be very violent, but it was nothing compared to what she endured growing up and the stories I heard about what she went through with her own mother”, Lisa said.
During an interview with People, Lisa recalled the moment when Patsy was laying into Patrick on his 18th birthday.
When she was laying into him, Patrick’s father Jesse warned her, saying he would divorce her if she touched their son again.
“She never hit him after that,” she told People.
His brother didn’t quit the job even after being diagnosed with cancer
His brother Patrick died of pancreatic cancer on the 14th of September, 2009.
He was diagnosed with the dreadful disease in January 2008 and had been battling the disease for almost two years.
He was working 12 hours a day for the 2009 drama series “The Beast” while undergoing chemotherapy treatment sessions on the weekends.
Sadly, it was his last acting performance before his demise.
In an interview with Dail Mail in 2011, Patsy opened up about her son’s demise and said it was horrible.
According to her, Patrick was always so healthy that nobody would ever have guessed.
“He never has had any serious illnesses or anything. He was ill for two years, you would never have known he was sick”, she told Daily Mail.
She also shared how her son was constantly working right up until the day he couldn’t work anymore without any complaints.
Patsy suffered a stroke just a few days before the fourth death anniversary of Patrick. She died on the 16th of September, 2013, at the age of 86.
