Erika B Mayers and her brother Asap Rocky, whose real name is Rakim, were named after an American hip hop duo formed in Long Island, New York, in 1986. 

This duo was composed of Dj Eric B and MC Rakim. They were regarded as the premier Dj/MC team in all hip hop.

He started taking rap seriously after he lost his brother. He released his first single called Purple Swag in July 2011.

This helped him gain more sensation, and in a short period, he was considered the rap sensation.

After releasing his next mixtape called Live to Love, he signed a three million worth deal with RCA Records and Polo Grounds Music.
